I am currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Montana. I obtained my Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado Boulder, my M.S. degree in Software Engineering from Chonnam National University (South Korea), and my B.S. degree in Computer Science from University of Science, VNU-HCMC (Vietnam).
My research interest spans the areas of building wearable and mobile systems to capture various physiological signals for understanding human body’s health, improving current health care practice, and enhancing smart building efficiency. I have been leading three (03) pivotal projects in which we design and implement novel, practical, and industrial-level hardware and software to realize closed-loop personalized sleep care through high-fidelity brain tracking and just-in-time brain stimulation wearables. We have been collaborating with Children’s Hospital Colorado and Anschutz Medical Campus to prove the medical significance and technical advances of our novel systems. Our research contributions have been recognized in flagship conferences including ACM MobiCom, ACM SenSys, ACM MobiSys with three Best Paper awards from ACM SenSys 2016, ACM MobiCom-S3 2017, and ACM MobiCom 2019, one Best Paper Runner Up award from ACM MobiCom 2017, one Best Paper Nominee from ACM SenSys 2018, four Research Highlights from Communications of the ACM (CACM) 2021 and 2018 and ACM SIGMOBILE 2017 and 2016, and four patents, and received wide press coverage from MIT TechReview and The Children's Hospital Colorado Center for Innovation. I also received the Honorable Mention Grad Talk from RMCWiC, an ACM Celebration Event, in 2018.
I am looking for self-motivated Ph.D. students to work on research projects in Machine Learning, Mobile Systems, and Smart Healthcare. Check my "Notes to Prospective Students" if you are interested in joining my lab!
