Notes for Prospective Graduate Students

Prospective Graduate Students

Thanks for your interest! Mobile and Networked Systems (MNS) Lab is looking for Ph.D. candidates in the areas of mobile systems, wireless technologies, and mobile security.
Students with either EE or CS background are highly encouraged to apply.

Candidates are expected to have:

  • a solid background in network/mobile systems,
  • a strong motivation towards academic excellence,
  • and should be prepared for years of concentrated work.
  • The following background would be a big plus:

  • Graduated with a Master Degree from accredited colleges and universities.
  • Published research articles as first author.
  • Have experience in designing mobile applications or wireless protocols; and implementing them on experimental platforms (e.g., software defined radios, smartphones, network drivers, FPGAs, smart hardware).
  • Have experience in designing, modeling and analyzing network protocols or mobile applications, using stochastic models, convex optimization, approximation algorithms,
  • Have experience with machine learning algorithms and signal processing algorithms.
  • Students in our team will build a diverse skill set in both system implementation and theoretical modeling. They will also acquire broad knowledge in mobile sensing, mobile applications, mobile healthcare, wearable computing, etc. Because of such unique strength, our team has top-conference papers and best paper awards in various venues such as MobiCom, MobiSys, CCS.

Please refer to our publication list to get a general understanding of MNS research topics before contacting us.
Please send your pre-application package including CV, sample of publications, GRE, and TOEFL to Dr. Tam Vu (tam.vu@colorado.edu) if you are interested.
